Wouldn't you want to see this? [21 Mar 2008|03:16pm]

Wow. *dusts off community* This community is dead. I read today's Dinosaur Comic (if you don't already read it, jump on the bandwagon) and couldn't help but think of us. Who wouldn't want to hear the chorus in limerick?

Beads for the Bayou [09 Sep 2005|04:59pm]

First years, here me out.

I know you're new to Agnes Scott, and that's awesome. College is a pretty cool place, I like to hink, and something unique about it is real life situations.

Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast just last week. Some people evacuated, but a great number did not and could not. Many died. You may not have seen the tragedy on TV or on the internet, but, I hope you understand the seriousness of the situation. This is not a normal hurricane - it was a level 4 when it hit, but had been a 5 until it crossed over land. New Orleans was not prepared for anything over a level 3, and it shows badly.

Agnes Scott is doing great things next week to rally aid for those affected and afflicted by this diaster. Good items are being refused by Red Cross and most major organizations (because it's too expensive to handle, inspect, ship, etc the items) but the Red Cross is accepting monetary donations.

Beads for the Bayou is helping this out. Beads will be sold everyday next week at lunch, from 11:30 to 2. Prices will range from $1.00 to $5.00, depending on the quality and quanity of beads sold. Please, stop by and buy beads from Beads for the Bayou. The money will go directly to Red Cross, which then will be used solely on the Gulf Coast rebuilding and rescuing its people and cities.

I need some help between 1-2 PM everyday, but most particularly Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Tuesday and Thursdays are also open, if you have time for the drive. Right now, very few people are manning the table in Evans Dining Hall for the Beads for the Bayou sale, and I would like help. There's no pressure. It's simple buy-and-sell business. The beads are in good condition and well seperated.

An hour of your time will affect the Beads for the Bayou drive. It will save lives, reconstruct homes, and change the people the aid finally reaches. You can make a difference. Please, do so. Thank you.

To contact about helping out the drive, please email me at: lrichier@agnesscott.edu or leave a comment on this entry. I appreciate your time. Thank you for any response you may have.

49.0, 48.9, 48.8, 48.7... [24 Aug 2005|03:01pm]

[ mood | excited ]

Approximately 48.5 hours left till we arrive on campus, and counting...

I can't wait! (Oh yes, I really am just that nerdy to have actually been keeping track of the exact number of hours)

[ mood | busy ]

Okay so I'm curious. I'm coming up on Thursday from Florida and staying at a hotel. I know we cannot bring stuff to campus early but is there any advice that you girls could give me about storing my stuff for one night. I don't want to leave it in the rental van, just because I'm afraid of it being stolen. Is there anything that you guys are doing specifically? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hey, guys, quick question!

What are your parents wearing to the Orientation Weekend activities? My parents are having a debate over what they should wear to, say, the formal opening, so I told them I'd ask around and find out.

Name: Jessica Lynn
DOB: March 19, 1987
Location: Currently Lawrenceville, natively Detroit, MI
AIM screen name: Verbrennen1369
Education: ...high school? Wouldn't this be the same for all of us thus far?
Favorite music/books/movies/[insert other manner of entertainment]: I like horror and comedy...I'm pretty odd
What else do you do? I worked at the CDC last year, oh and I LARP like a madwoman
Possible majors: Molecular Biology/Biochemistry and Biology (it's the double triple, hooray!)
What's one of your favorite things about Agnes Scott? academic reputation
What class/ classes are you looking forward to the most? Fencing, and belly dancing...theoretical grammar would be cool if it existed
Any other info you want to add: Eh...it's probably best if you just get to know me...I'm not like other people

On that note, don't worry about non09res seeing our mascot ideas...they've all already got mascots, so why would they care? At best they can be like "ooo we know what you're doing!" and we can reply "so what?" Because we rock.

We should do something...powerful. Every other class does something sexy, which is all fine and good but mental prowess bests physical attractiveness any day.

Also included (and quite randomly, if you ask me) are first year seminars-- in my case, "All About Women on the Verge: Representations of Women in the Films of Pedro Almodóvar." *cough* My case and probably about two others'...

Hey Everyone, I haven't posted before...but my name is Andrea and I'm from Gainesville, Fl. You can learn more About me from Face book under Andrea buchanan. Anyways, my question to everyone is.. have you talked to your parents about monthly allowance while at college? My parents and I have been discussing how much they will give me and whatnot...like what kind of things i'll need to spend on and yada ya. So basically I was wondering what your parents are thinking on this subject. I dont want to be completely unreasonable or get jipped...so yah :)

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince [18 Jul 2005|04:19pm]

You can yell at me if you'd rather not have a massive Harry Potter discussion. I just noticed that there are some HP fans, so I thought I'd post about it.

I've finished the book. If anyone wants to chat about it, reply to this. Or go to my personal LJ, I just updated about it there.

But yeah. O.O It's incredible. I highly suggest reading it.

And since I'm talking about books, did anyone notice that our FYI group for "Bee Season" wants us to write a letter to the authur discussing "deep thoughts" about the book? Does anyone else think that's a little . . . I dunno, immature? That seems like one of those cheesey projects you get from your high school textbook. I can understand notes or thinking about it or key points or themes. But the letter thing just doesn't click for me.

I bet I'll read "Bee Season", love it, and feel guilty for that last paragraph. Ah well.

this is your brain on cabin fever [15 Jul 2005|03:08am]

[ mood | crazy ]

ok, so i feel really ridiculous asking this, but it's past 3am, i'm in a really crazy i-wish-i-were-tired-enough-to-sleep mood, and i'm considering this to be a sort of "early-morning insomniac confessions" moment, so here goes:

you know of the groups on facebook, there's one that's like "a nickel between the knees at asc." now, i'm really hoping that this must be some sort of southern thing or something, because i have no idea what on earth that means. i'm creative enough to come up with a few possibilities of what it might be, but the group description says something like, "c'mon, does that even need a description?" and while it's quite possible that i'm really just that out of touch with reality, i think i would've have at least heard the phrase before.

um, please don't laugh at me (too much) for not only having no clue what it's talking about, but for also being enough of a loser to ask about it on livejournal. i seriously just have absolutely nothing better to do with my time than this...

p.s. i know i can not be the only person right now who's secretly nervous that her roommate is going to think she's a freak. i mean, i'm weird and all, but what if my roommate... isn't.

ok, yeah... i promise i can pass for mostly normal when i haven't been stranded alone at my house all day for like four days straight without anybody to talk to except my dog and the occasional crazy family member. really.

fall class selection [09 Jul 2005|12:06pm]

[ mood | dorky ]

Hello girls,
I was just wondering how many of you have made your selections for fall classes. Also, if you have made your selections, which ones did everyone select? I'm so lost, I wrote down which ones I might be interested in but I don't have any math or science classes. Should I have a math or science class? Just some random questions. Thanks all.

There's so much to read! [25 Jun 2005|08:59pm]

[ mood | happy ]

This is the first time I've looked at the community. There's no way I'm gonna be able to read all this! But from what I can tell, ya'll are cool! Very eclectic and open-minded. I approve (like you cared). Anyway:

Name: Laura
DOB: July 3, 1987
Location: Cartersville, GA (midway, kinda, b/t Atlanta and Rome)
AIM screen name: RuinsofFate
Education: recent graduate of Cartersville High School
Favorite music/books/movies/[insert other manner of entertainment]:

Music: Matchbox Twenty, U2, Sarah McLachlan, Alanis Morissette, Coldplay, Killers, Keane, Lifehouse, Two Mix

Books: Harry Potter, Hemingway, Paulo Coelho, Edgar Allan Poe, Shakespeare, Pearl S. Buck

Movies: anything Tim Burton or Johnny Depp or the combination of the two, Cowboy Bebop Movie, Miyazaki stuff, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, uhm, other stuff I can't think of

What else do you do? - I play soccer (yay fellow Scotties, I play with ye!). I write, hopefully more in the future than I have recently. I love movies and discussing movies and seeing movies. And have a major passion for music (I was in the chorus all through high school and sing along with anything I'm listening to). I have a strange love for things that are British.

Possible majors: psychology with a possible minor in film studies

What's one of your favorite things about Agnes Scott? - I already know it fairly well because my sister is a 2005 graduate and I've been visiting ASC for 4 years due to her.

What class/ classes are you looking forward to the most? - the ones that make you think and question you beliefs and morals -- any class that is extraordinary and discomforting at the same time

Any other info you want to add: yes, I am into the Japanese stuff, but am somewhat out of the loop, so go easy on me. Otherwise, I like to get poetic and intricate with my wording, so if you don't understand me, just yell at me.

And here's that other questionnaire thing . . .

Name You Prefer to Be Called - Laura
Number of Siblings (If Any) - 3 - 2 bros and a sis
Size of High School (and your class) - AAA (don't know how many), with about 215 graduates
Language(s) Taken - Latin
AP Courses Taken (If Any) - U.S. History, American Literature, Calculus AB
College Classes Taken (If Any) - none

Fave Food - Don't ask difficult questions! You'll hurt my brain!
Vegetarian or No? - no
Fave Ice Cream Flavor - COFFEE!!!!!

Have you visited ASC? - yes
Have you heard the train at ASC? :) - yes
What are you looking forward about your dorm? - disturbingly enough, yeah (don't know why)
What are your feelings on all-women colleges (or ASC as an all-woman college)? they/ASC teaches women that we can kick so much arse and be incredibly smart and confident, and that makes me happy
What 3 words best describe you? - multi-faceted, creative, deep

Which, if you had to pick, do you prefer: Kittens or Puppies? - Puppies (but I'll take kittens if there are no puppies)

Sorry for the huge post. Looking forward to much love during first year! Ya'll really do sound like a great bunch.
